Vice President, Commercialization

Location: Flexible / Remote with Significant Travel (50%-70%) | Reports to: CEO Target | Start Date: Q3 2026

Company Overview

Liberate Medical is a clinical-stage medical device company preparing to bring a breakthrough technology to the U.S. market. Our lead product, the VentFree® Respiratory Muscle Stimulator, is the only non-invasive, breath-synchronized neuromuscular electrical stimulation device designed to increase cough and expiratory muscle strength and reduce ventilator duration in mechanically ventilated ICU patients. VentFree has the potential to establish a new standard of care for ventilator weaning — reducing patient morbidity, saving lives, and significantly lowering provider costs.

VentFree has received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation and Emergency Use Authorization, as well as CE marking in the EU. Our 250-patient PREVENT pivotal trial has completed enrollment, with results upcoming followed by an FDA De Novo submission to support an anticipated early 2027 U.S. launch.

We are seeking a commercial leader to translate groundbreaking clinical results into market reality and build the commercial franchise from the ground up.

The Opportunity

This is a rare chance to define the commercial trajectory of a breakthrough medical technology from pre-launch through initial scale. As VP of Commercialization, you will be the most senior commercial leader in the company, reporting directly to the CEO with significant autonomy over strategy and execution. You will build the commercial function, hire and lead the launch team, personally close the first deals, and represent the company's commercial thesis to investors during a critical fundraise. The role will expand to include international markets as the U.S. launch matures.

The ideal candidate has built a commercial operation from scratch at a pre-revenue or early-stage medical device company, launched a novel or category-creating technology into hospital settings, and is motivated by the challenge and responsibility of creating a new market category with a small, high-performing team.

Primary Responsibilities

Commercial Strategy & Launch Execution

  • Develop and own the comprehensive U.S. launch plan: pricing strategy, contracting frameworks, go-to-market approach, sales channel design, and revenue forecasting

  • Translate PREVENT clinical data into compelling value propositions, sales tools, and economic models for hospital decision-makers

  • Lead reimbursement and market access strategy in collaboration with market access partners, including evaluation of supplemental payment pathways such as NTAP to complement VentFree's strong cost-savings value proposition

  • Design and execute pilot programs at early adopter institutions, with clear conversion pathways to system-wide adoption

  • Build commercial infrastructure: sales playbooks, CRM, training programs, and performance metrics

  • Leverage PREVENT trial sites as beachhead accounts, cultivating clinical champions and KOL relationships in pulmonary and critical care

Sales Execution & Market Development

  • Personally lead complex, full-cycle sales into hospital ICU environments during early market introduction, engaging physicians, respiratory therapy leadership, nursing, supply chain, value analysis committees, and C-suite, with direct personal accountability for early revenue targets and market adoption milestones

  • Drive revenue targets, pipeline management, and forecasting from first sale through initial scale

  • Navigate hospital purchasing processes including GPO relationships, IDN contracting, VA hospitals

  • Build awareness and education in the emerging category of neuromuscular electrical stimulation for ventilator weaning

  • Represent Liberate Medical at industry conferences, medical society meetings, and customer events

Team Building & Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and hold accountable a high-performing commercial team to launch VentFree in the US

  • Partner with Clinical Affairs to ensure seamless implementations, strong clinical outcomes, and account retention

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Product Development and Clinical teams to incorporate customer insights into the product roadmap

  • Work with the CEO and business advisory board on commercialization strategy and market expansion

Investor Relations & Strategic Growth

  • Present and defend commercial strategy, market opportunity, and early traction to investors and board of directors — this will be a key responsibility during the company's next fundraise

  • Contribute to business development discussions including distribution partnerships and strategic relationships

  • Provide market intelligence to inform clinical strategy, product development, and long-term growth planning

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of progressive medical device commercial experience, with increasing leadership responsibility

  • At least one successful commercial launch of a novel or category-creating medical device, ideally at a pre-revenue or early-stage company

  • Hands-on experience selling critical care devices into hospital ICUs or critical care environments

  • Demonstrated ability to close complex, multi-stakeholder hospital deals involving clinical, economic, and administrative decision-makers

  • Deep understanding of hospital purchasing processes: value analysis committees, capital equipment procurement, IDN contracting, GPO relationships

  • Clinical data fluency — ability to translate trial results and medical literature into commercial messaging and economic value propositions

  • Experience building a commercial team and function from the ground up

  • Comfort presenting commercial strategy to institutional investors and board members

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or clinical degree) preferred

Strongly Preferred

  • Experience with reimbursement pathway establishment for novel devices (NTAP, new coding, payer engagement)

  • Background in respiratory care or pulmonary medicine

  • Experience with FDA Breakthrough Device Designation or De Novo classification pathways

  • Established network of relationships with ICU physicians, respiratory therapy leaders, or critical care stakeholders — a strong existing rolodex in the ICU environment is highly valued

  • Experience selling capital equipment or therapy-delivery devices

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience

  • Performance-based incentive compensation with significant upside potential

  • Meaningful equity grant with 4-year vesting at a pre-revenue, pre-clearance valuation — reflective of the ground-floor nature of this commercial leadership role

  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision

  • Flexible work location
